It is another of my "firsts" - first carved cake.
When I got this order, the idea of using carving technique came to me at once. I wanted to try it for a long time.
As always I did my research first :) I found out that:
You should use a dense type of cake (ex. pound cake) as the lighter one may not survive cutting too well.
You should not fill your cake or do it as little as possible as layers may slide when sculpted.
The best way is to freeze your cake before carving as this will make cake and most of all filling firmer and as consequence your job will be easier.
Well, call it beginner's luck but I didn't do any of the above. I made light types of cakes, I filled them making 2-3 layers and I only chilled it well. And it worked. And it wasn't too difficult. It helped that I had an easy "yin yang" kind of a concept and this tutorial helped A LOT too - I'm not such a genius on my own ;) Plus, let's be honest, I did several mistakes in proportions and physiology of dogs' faces, but I'm still pretty happy with the end effect and what's most important so was the birthday girl.
